WRITTEN SECTION
Bibliography:
Minimum 8 references (8 points possible)
i. Alphabetical
ii. References should be varied for maximum points
iii. At least one source must be from a scholarly article. Please copy the first two pages of any peer reviewed articles and turn them in with your written section.
iv. Must use CBE style format (sample sheet will be provided)
Any web resources must be included in the bibliography (above). In addition, teams must submit web site addresses and evaluations. See the Web Evaluation page of this website for web site evaluating. (7 points possible for web component)

Outline: Provide a keyword outline of your presentation. This will be copied and distributed to students to facilitate their following along during your presentation. (5 points possible)
Notes:
· All written work must be typed and edited for full credit.
· Total points possible for the written section is 25.
· All team members will receive the same grade for the written material. I suggest, therefore, that you ask each other for permission to edit one another’s work.
· If a team member is not doing their share of work, see me immediately. I will intervene.
PRESENTATION SECTION
Requirements:
Presentation will be 20 minutes long
The presentation is intended to be a teaching event to share what your team has learned about your topic with the rest of the class.
Grading: For the presentation each student will receive an individual grade consisting of the following categories:
Content: Your grade will be based on the amount of work that is evident that you did. Knowledge (mastery) of subject will be graded. Did you cover the key aspects of your topic? Was it thoroughly researched to include the most up-to-date information? Did you consult credible, scientific sources to gain information on your topic? Did you define terms that were new to biology 101 students? Did you present your information on an appropriate level? Were you able to tie your information to what we discussed in class? (15 points possible)
Visual aids/teaching media: Each person must use at least one visual (more is better).
i. Use big bright bold visuals that the whole class can see.
ii. Interpret the visual aids, don’t just prop up a poster or overhead, go over it with the class.
iii. Video clips totaling up to 2 minutes can be used throughout any part of the presentation.
iv. Ask yourself if your visual aid adds to the understanding of a concept.
v. Using a power point with just text will not be an impressive visual tool.
vi. (10 points possible)
Presentation Style: How well did you present? Were you able to engage your audience so that they could learn easily? Pay attention to the following:
i. Eye contact
ii. Communicate information with appropriate speed and volume of your voice.
iii. Be relaxed so that your natural enthusiasm and interest can come through in your presentation. Having your partners watch you practice can help you to get confident and relaxed.
iv. (5 points possible)
Time:
i. Groups of 3 should not go over or under the 20-minute time limit by more than 5 minutes.
ii. Groups of 4 are allotted 25 minutes and should not go under or over by 5 minutes.
iii. Groups of 2 should present for 13-15 minutes.
iv. The first speakers must be careful not to go overtime and force the last speaker to cut off their presentation. The only way to be comfortable here is to do a dressed rehearsal. If you are overtime, I don’t think it would be worth it for the last person to cut their part short; better to lose the 5 time points than to sacrifice one person’s presentation.
v. (5 points possible)
Coherence:
i. Has this topic been coordinated well and practiced as a group?
ii. Did the presentation go smoothly? Redundancy of information will show that you have not coordinated well.
iii. How are the transitions between speakers?
iv. (5 points possible)
Finally . . . Be creative and innovative in approaching the teaching aspect of your presentation. Even fabulous information won’t be well received unless it is presented in a way that interests others.
i. Total points for the presentation section is 40.
