On the upcoming exam, I will cull the essay question from this list of topics (Students, please remind me to build this list as we proceed through the next chapters):

1.      What are three strategies for protecting against foreign cells, organisms or molecules?

2.      A pathogenic bacteria enters your body.  Describe the steps involved as your body mounts an immune response.

3.      Why might a mother be at risk with her Rh+ baby?

4.      Why did I discuss the dilemma that faced Mickey Mantle?  How was it germane to chapter 13?

5.      Describe how a genetic mutation might impact p53.

6.      A person has a mutated p53 but they do not have cancer.  Explain.

7.      Why is cancer called a genetic disease?

8.      A week after chemotherapy patient said his cancer is gone.  I said, “watch for rabbits.”  Explain the rabbit analogy.

9.      Discuss sex linked disorders.  Provide an example.

10.  What is the relationship between body-building steroids and balding?

11.  As discussed in lecture, what is the evolutionary benefit of sex?

12.  Give me a brief lesson distinguishing a gene from an allele from a trait.

13.  Why is deadly Huntington’s disease not likely to fade out of our gene pool?

I want this to be helpful to you as you study but I don't want people to memorize an answer.  Consequently, the essay you see on the test will be related to these but not identical.
