Extra Credit Options
Students may earn a maximum of 25 points through extra credit.
1. Visit Cedar Flats. Jerry Franklin calls this the best old growth in the south Cascades. 15 pt.
a. Take a picture of yourself at the sign.
b. Photograph 7 plants or organisms. You must attempt to identify all of them although I will accept two that you may be stuck on.

2. Go on an outing of your own design. Clear it with me first. 10-15 points.
a. Collect (just a leaf or small portion--don't damage plants) or photograph (this is preferable) 7 plants or organisms. You must attempt to identify all of them although I will accept two that you may be stuck on.
b. Decide on a way that I can verify that you’ve been there.
3. Collect forestry news articles (maximum 2) from The Columbian or The Oregonian. Prepare a paper for each of the articles. Your paper should include:
a. A copy of the article
b. Two insightful questions related to the article, asked and answered by you.
c. An editorial comment about the article.
d. This will be worth a maximum of 10 points. I will grade based on the following:
i. The questions must be interesting. The more compelling the question, the more points I’ll award.
ii. The editorial comment must be insightful, perhaps challenging, perhaps original and thought provoking.
iii. It must be typed and spell checked.
iv. Three quarters of a page should be enough. I’ll accept more pages if you feel it’s necessary.
