2008 Elementary Results: Aerodynamics - Build two paper airplanes to be flown a distance of at least five meters, landing on a predetermined target. 1st - Team #6, Union Ridge 2nd - Team #10, Dorothy Fox Black 3rd - Team #5, Maple Grove Green Top Group - Group 4-D, Maple Grove Yellow
Gunk - Design and test a ball of gunk (Elmer's glue, liquid starch, and salt) that will bounce a certain height. 1st - Team #11, Captain Strong
Metric Mastery - Estimate and measure different objects using metric units, which may include mass, volume, distance, time and temperature. 1st - Team #13, Hockinson Intermediate
Mystery Architecture - This event is designed to test the students' ability to think on their feet. They will be given a bag of materials to build a freestanding tower as high as they can so that it supports a tennis ball at its top. The materials will not be known until they begin and might include straight pins, paper cups, drinking straws, paper clips, tape, string, paper, etc. 1st - Team #12, Helen Baller
Straw Egg Drop - Make a device of straws and masking tape to hold a large, raw egg. The device containing the egg will be dropped from a fixed height to a target. Devices whose eggs are unbroken and closest to the target score highest. 1st - Team #6, Union Ridge
