Text book: Well Said, Pronunciation for Clear Communication by Linda Grant
It takes a lot of really hard work
to improve pronunciation. Your cheek and neck muscles will actually hurt when
you first learn to make the correct sounds. That is normal and expected. In
fact, if the muscles don't hurt at the beginning of your training, you are probably not producing the sound
correctly yet!
| Please submit the pronunciation worksheet to me. I need to know what kinds of difficulties you are having, so we can facilitate your learning. Be sure to identify the sounds you worked with and to write comments on how easy/difficult this was/is for you. | |
|
We will also be working with Ellis Pronunciation in class. It is a cd with several types of pronunciation exercises. You will be able to listen to sounds, and to record yourself making these sounds to compare your pronunciation with the voice on the cd. |
The Language Center at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has a list of sites with music, songs, computer programs to help you practice your pronunciation skills. Not all of what is there is free, but there are still a few good hints for pronunciation practice. This is the address in case you want to print this page for later use. http://lc.ust.hk/~sac/advice/english/listening/L7.htm
