A Dictionary of American English – English - English only, please! A binder to organize class notes and assignments (your portfolio) and a floppy disc or thumb drive for assignments. Office Hours: M/W/F, from 10:00- 10:30 AM, and on T/Th, from 3:30- 4:15 in BHL 101. Other times by appointment.

  2. How much do you know about paragraph writing? Plan for the quarter.  Recognizing good paragraphs

  3. Main ideas, topic sentences, concluding sentences, hooks and titles  

  4. Rubrics

  5. Parts of Chapters 1, 2, and 3 (skim /scan all 3)

  1. Chapters 2 and 3, especially 3 on Tuesday.

  2. Descriptions - read "The Box Man" pages 7 - 11

  3. Using your senses, adjectives and adverbs for great descriptions - Using words wisely – what is their connotation?

  4. Read pages 66 -77

  2. Thursday: Peer review of draft one of your descriptive paragraph and
  3. Narration : Read pages 90 - 108
First Draft of Description: Use one of the in class writing assignments and develop it more. This will be your first descriptive paragraph.
