Lab Description

The 262 Exercise Prescription lab portion of the course is intended to develop and/or reinforce the concepts of the training principles for athletic training through active participation.  The lab portion of the course is designed to educate students in various activities, as well as give valuable understanding of how to teach exercise techniques in a sport or performance setting.

Policies

Attendance is mandatory for the this class.  A student will lose points when absent from class.

On days when students must dress down, they are allowed 5 minutes at the beginning and end of class to dress.

It is the student’s responsibility to check with the instructor concerning absences. 

bullet

If the student arrives late, it is the student’s responsibility to inform the instructor that he or she is present.

bullet

Two (2) tardies (arriving more than 5 minutes late to class) will count as 1 absence!

Students need to bring the following to each lab class:

Bicycle, bicycle helmet, running shoes, and swim suit/goggles, when appropriate

Proper Attire

To receive full credit in lab, students must dress appropriately for participation in physical activity beginning with the second day of class.  Appropriate dress for physical activity will be needed every day.  Please check the Schedule for details on days when appropriate dress for physical activity is not needed.  Appropriate attire includes the following:

Mondays...typically no need to dress down as we will be discussing periodization planning

bullet

Tuesdays...we will be practicing endurance training techniques, which include jogging, sprinting, bicycling, and triathlon transitions.  Wear attire that will be practical for these exercises, depending on which lesson will be taught.  Most of these sessions will be outside, when practical 

bullet

Wednesdays...we will be practicing strength training techniqes in the weight room.  Wear attire that will be practical for these exercises.

Thursdays...we will be practicing swimming training techniques at the Marshall Center pool.  Wear attire that will be practical for these exercises.

bullet

Other guidelines that should be followed on days of activity follow.

Jeans are not acceptable. 

bullet

Hats may worn outside in sunny weather for running training only.

bullet

Excessive or dangling jewelry is also discouraged.

bullet

Students may not participate or receive credit if dressed inappropriately.

Student Locker Room Policy

Located at north end of the main gym (men= west; women= east)

bullet

Select a locker and use your own lock

bullet

Register your lock with the Thompson Fitness Center

bullet

Remove your lock and items by the last day of Final Exam week each term

bullet

Locks will be removed and contents sent to security for 30 days if locks are either unregistered by the 10th day of the quarter or not removed by the last day of Final Exam week

Contact security to secure items; after 30 days, items will be donated to charity

Evaluation

Students receive up to five (10) points for each lab that is actively participated in.  Additional points will be received for completing an assignment related to that day.   The grading criterion for attendance will be based on the following:

 

ATTENDANCE

q    Dressed appropriately

q    On time & ready

q    Prepared:  textbook, writing utensil, notebook, other items

q    Attentive & participate in all activities

q    Up to 10 points for each class
