In order to develop programs and tools to address workforce needs in a particular industry, it is important to understand the issues and concerns regarding workforce recruitment, hiring/screening, training, and retention. Some issues may permeate all sectors of the industry while others may affect only some sectors. The report below examines each sector of the freight transportation industry - trucking, railroad, maritime shipping, and air freight. It also briefly explores some sectors of emerging importance - warehousing and logistics. The report outlines common themes, makes general recommendations and provides suggestions for programs and tools to assist each individual sector.
